"A video game comic and blog that would have been awesome and relevant 10 years ago. Maybe." -Famous Website
Today's comic comes once again from the perplexing world of Fez! After the first comic based on it, we had already played a bit into it but not quite far enough to tease the recesses of our minds with enigmas that may very well elude us for eternity. I have been good about trying to avoid all possible spoilers for the game so that I do not take away that precious sense of mystery and wonder that are key to its success.
Last time I wrote that there were no clues or help; well, that is a bit misleading. There are enough hints to get you on the right path and of course there is enough information presented to figure out most puzzles. Some puzzles though rely completely on your knowledge outside of the game world, which is a really interesting way of having Fez reach beyond the screen and into your living room. When you realize what the game is hinting at and when you uncover major clues, you perk right up and venture off to all the maps you know where this new information applies itself. You get this amazing feeling of empowerment from cracking open a bit more of the game.
This sense of discovery and mystery is a critically important one to both Pie and me. We often feel like we ingest games at a slower rate than many others because once the mysteries have been unlocked, then the fascination tends to dwindle as well. This is especially true when we have a game that we feel is really special; we might be infinitely energetic and enthusiastic, but once we sit down to play I feel we might give off the impression we aren't very interested. ArenaNet is having a small GW2 stress test event this Monday and Pie and I are looking forward to a nice, relaxed session of sipping on the wine that is Tyria.
