Last week, Pie and I decided that it was about that time to take a break and get some much needed R&R. Though I'm doing a lot better personally, the emotional toll has necessitated breaks every so often which we usually use to work on personal projects and re-ignite passions so we have something we are excited make comics about as well as recharge batteries. It was great getting outside (did you know that was a thing?), socializing with some friends, as well as being able to dive into Stranger Things.
Really, there have just been so many superb shows lately that I always feel like it's some golden age of TV. Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, House of Cards, Transparent, Vikings, Sherlock, Jessica Jones, Better Call Saul, Your Lie in April, The Seven Deadly Sins...just, really so many great things!! I don't think that the quality is better than any other time, per se, I just am grateful to have so many shows accessible to me at the push of a few buttons...ready and waiting for me whenever my schedule affords.
One of the great things that Pie and I really loved about Stranger Things specifically though was how well it captured the energy that shows set in and airing in the 80's… That era was certainly extremely impressionable to us since we grew up watching them and it sparked so many memories from watching shows late at night and getting super excited about them; I really couldn't help but make comparisons to Stranger Things and the original X-Files. But it was so much more too, as it carried the vibes of Poltergeist, Silent Hill, Aliens, Goonies and a few others. Even with some obvious nods the creators infused into Stranger things, the show is fresh and exactly what I'd been looking for lately. Go watch it (again)!
