Spare Parts

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but what happens when you see through the eyes of a mischievous little boy sitting at the computer or console with a big helping of imagination and a lot of spare time? You may end up with a creation that even Dr. Frankenstein would blush at.

Today we decided to poke fun at the new Megaman Universe game coming out. Not much information has really been released up to this point and what has been shown is confusing. The release statements have said that “This game will break the mold and challenge conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be”. Certainly everything that has been shown up until now has broken some mold – between the perplexing debut “trailer” and the news that you can make you own Mega Man by assembling spare parts, it certainly allows for some creative interpretations.

Other then the confusing side of the news for Mega Man Universe, it looks pretty intriguing so far. I am interested to know more about how the online component will work and how you will be able to interact with people. Will you be able to play levels together with your friends similar to Castlevania: Harmony of Despair or will it be a game where you simply share your created levels and characters with friends? Only time will tell but there seems to be a big push from Capcom to release new Mega Man IP so we are anxious to see what they come up with. Now if only they would give Breath of Fire some love…

In other news, TGS is going on right now so there should be some new things to discuss here and there. It makes me wonder how much there possibly could be with so many reveals coming out of E3 this year and even a few more at the PAX. I'm sure game developers must be feeling the stress of having so many game shows going on per year. One game I'm highly anticipating is Catherine from Atlus' amazing Persona team. It is the teams first foray into HD and the title is being labeled as an action-adventure game with an adult theme. So far the trailers for the game look amazing, with some of the anime cut-scenes being done by the amazing Studio 4°c (Spriggan, Tekkon Kinkreet). This is definitely one game to look out for!

The Megaman Online Universe

september 17, 2010

I'm a big Megaman aka Rockman fan and I've been really wanting to do another Megaman themed piece of artwork for a while. Working on this comic wasn't so much a "Megaman" project though considering that there's actually a lot of semi-original visual material, but drawing the infamous Megaman 2 dragon boss was really fun and makes me want to draw more robot/Megaman stuff. XD I'm kind of worried about how in the script we said "Jesus Christ" and "Jackass," I really didn't want to offend anyone with harsh or curse-like words, but I also believed that's where a lot of the humor was. '_' I apologize if the comic offended any of you.

It was an interesting surprise when Capcom revealed an online Megaman game in the works a while back. I feel a little anxious to see more I think due to all the vague information. (I want to note though that this is absolutely NOT from seeing the official announcement stop-animation teaser. It's so painful for me to watch... -_-) I guess it's a good marketing strategy to build hype by not revealing much. ^^;; It was even more surprising (and confusing) when it was announced that there will be ANOTHER Megaman themed online game developed in Korea. I honestly for a while thought both announcements were for the same game. Seeing the teaser without any information was really exciting! XD It's so awesome to see some long awaited high quality Rockman animation. The only things that I feel unsatisfied about is that it's a shame the setting looks so dark and how Rockman strangely is able to fly at the end. >.>

I've always felt disappointed that Capcom spent so much money on animation for the Street Fighter franchise but not on Rockman. '_' I'm a little surprised considering how popular it is; THOUGH I suppose having a few TV seasons and a movie based on Rockman EXE (Megaman Battle Network) counts as Rockman animation. I've always kinda had a hard time accepting that series as being a "Rockman" franchise because it feels like the sole purpose of the game was to cash into the "collect and battle" trend (think Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc.) that's gotten immensely popular in Asia over the recent years. I hear the Rockman EXE series is actually really good, but I don't think I'll ever get around to trying it out, especially since the newer Nintendo consoles aren't backwards compatible to play Gameboy Advance games. '_' My ideal Rockman show would probably be based on the classic Rockman story. XD

Here's hoping for some good new Rockman games. =)
