Whirlwind Inside My Head

As Pie mentioned last week, we've been playing a number of games lately and getting decently far...and now that our community has resumed raiding schedule, a decent helping of FFXIV obsession thrown in for good measure. Honestly, before raiding, I kinda had my fill of XIV...but the battles being so fun and having good friends to play with, it makes it a bit hard to really let go X3

As you may have noticed, comic releases have been slowing down in the past few weeks, and a lot of that was attributed to the fact that, before we took a long break from making the comic to explore new games, it's been a monumental hurdle to have any desire to produce comics. I feel like I've been in a rut as far as writing goes and it's been hard to make gaming related comics when there hasn't been much desire to play anything. We took the break and the relief from producing the comic (and only having to focus on everyday life obligations), helped give us some much needed breathing room to sort of collect ourselves, reconnect with our passion, and just sort of relax and unwind a bit.

With Hellblade, I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with the experience. Ninja Theory did a great job with it and they did really well at making me care about the world and Senua. Though they have done that for me before with Enslaved, just like with that game they also tended to make nearing the end game a slog of fighting. The combat itself is pretty fun and Brie had likened it to "Dark Souls Lite", and I will have to agree, but it still feels a little heavy handed when what I want the most is to finish the game and see the rest of the story. Once I was nearing the endgame, knowing I was close to having my save file wiped from screwing up too much on the journey getting there, I just had to put the game down to take a breather from the heavy tension. Granted, that was also around the time I was having a strong emotional reaction to the content too, with the depiction of fighting internal demons feeling especially potent to me.

Either way, I certainly recommend people checking it out because I would love for studios to start making these sort of shorter, more refined experiences, instead of the 60+ hour epics that will only sit on my shelf and collect dust.
