Dead Man's Party

november 4 , 2018

I had my eyes on Dragalia Lost since maybe a couple of months before it launched. It surprised me to see Nintendo doing something that looked so "anime", not only that but a fantasy RPG, so it kinda stood out among other game news. I was really excited later, after seeing a video of how the gameplay is, it looked like it would work really well for a top-down-view action RPG; finally, to see an action RPG for the phone with controls that were engineered for the platform! -not the virtual control pad controls that has your thumbs slipping off where the "buttons" are since you can't feel them. I admit that I haven't really looked into and played many mobile games, so I don't know if this control scheme has been a thing for a while. ^^

I've been having a ton of fun with the game! It feels responsive and fluid, there are eight weapon classes that have their own nuances in playstyle, elemental weaknesses, and many cool looking characters to collect and power up with their own personal story and quirks! =D

The story starts off kinda "generic RPG fantasy", but gets fun and charming once more and more characters join in to interact with one another. I love the cartoony, bright and colorful presentation, and how all the characters and even the menu seem to pulse and bounce to the beat of the menu music. XD The game also sports a lot of beautiful art~

You can even play the game co-op with up to three other players. It's kinda bold for me to say, but it kinda gives me a Secret of Mana feeling, but with small dungeons and no over world to run around. ^^ The co-op option wasn't really prominent to me for most of my time playing, thus I ended up taking on everything on my own until recently at the end of the Halloween event. It was during the event, that I learned that even though the stages have a suggested strength level for your party, it probably refers mainly to if you're playing with other humans. XD The AI, though not completely useless, have a thing about not caring to get out of the line of enemy fire. Throughout my whole time with the Halloween event, all of my teammates were dead by the third dungeon enemy encounter, even when I was playing the healer. >.<

Anyway, despite that, I'm really enjoying the game, much more than I would have expected. ^.^
