For many of us, for a lot of our lives, we pursue things we want, setting our sights on a goal. We set high expectations in what we can achieve; to be smart, talented, someone of value; and thus we set out to travel the arduous journey in chase of that shadow. We become so focused on where we want to be at that's further down the road and become depressed and self deprecating knowing that we're not there yet. We compare ourselves with others that are ahead of us and are frustrated that it looks so much easier from an outsider's point of view. There is often much focus on the future, how things will, should, or how we want them to be. We need to remember that there exists a now too, and that we can't hate ourselves for not being more than what we are, similar to how we can't expect to have a climax and ending without the middle portion of a story. Nothing lasts forever and life is always shifting things around. There are good things in this place of time that we'll miss when they're gone. We need to be sure to spend a little bit of time appreciating, celebrating, and filling ourselves up with what we have to be sure that in the future, when the time has come for things to end, that we're satisfied with what we can take with us.
