"A video game comic and blog that would have been awesome and relevant 10 years ago. Maybe." -Famous Website
Seeing as how our close friends have been busy lately, we've been spending some quality time with our stuffed animal friends to shore up the deficit. Long time readers of the comic may be familiar with Tiger on the Loose and Celebratory Bunny, but there are many more that have yet to be introduced! Well this week, Jellycat takes over the stage to drop an important life message that we would all do well to heed!
Pie and I have been playing quite a lot of Rogue Legacy this week! I have to say that I am rather impressed by it; it turned out to be a lot more compelling than the already enticing trailer video lead us to believe. I have to say that I'm not usually a fan of roguelikes; as I've said before, procedurally generated content lacks a certain soul to it that I tend to gravitate away from. It's one thing in a game like Minecraft or Terraria where you are primarily just exploring, romping and building, but I don't really see the appeal in a platforming only game.
Playing Rogue Legacy made me realize that another key factor that I miss in many roguelikes is a sense of progression. Progression from mastery is one thing, but actually having more tangible milestones helps you feel like you are making headway. Story gets sprinkled in, unveiling itself slowly over time which adds yet another incentive to keep diving in and adding to a sense of accomplishment. The random traits for characters is hilarious and fun and the different classes help switch it up enough to make each run feel refreshing. It all adds up to a highly addictive formula!
I've also just recently picked up Skyrim for the first time which we nabbed in the last Steam sale. Oh my, what have I gotten myself into?
