I had a very similar experience when I first saw a horror movie on my mother in law's 4k tv. I was thinking, man everything looks so clean and plasticy, I don't think it has the same feel on the new technology. After all the moving I did in my life though, there's no way i'm lugging around the old heavy tube tvs though lolol.
