And here is what I said in reply:
Thanks a ton for the critique Brad. I'm glad you picked this comic as I wasn't really happy with the punch so this hot seat helps weed out issues of clarity and making a stronger joke. Fei as the artist has a lot of experience in her craft but I'm still getting my feet wet with joke telling and it really shows here –I know that her art will go to waste if my writing sucks, so I really need to do better.
I laughed at your first suggested revision and wished I had come up with it! I think I really will take your advice for letting a joke sit for a week or more to help the material cook. Thanks again for taking the time out to do this for all of us!
What can I say, really? I feel like I got punched in the gut...and rightfully so. There are updates in the archive that I don't feel good about, and he picked one of the more recent ones. Even though Carlos liked it, I did think it was weak over all, and more to the point, he came up with a much better joke, I thought. I wish I had the years of experience in joke telling/writing to compliment Fei's equivalent amount of experience in her art so as to do her justice. I feel like I'm being the weak link of the group, and it sucks...
Anyways, sorry for sounding down. I can't get better if I don't keep trying, so I will persevere and get better for her sake as well as for all you guys. Thanks for continuing to read despite some of the lackluster installments.
