Creature Features

Brilliant work with this weeks comic guys. I really like what you did with the backgrounds, especially in the first panel. I cant say i've ever even seen someone playing Seiken Densetsu, let alone played it myself, Was the background inspired by the game or just something you wanted to do?

Speaking of Mimics, i honestly found it rather rude they were shaped like treasure chests yet (on most games i've played) never hold any reward for their defeat. Inconsiderate is what it is! Its like finding a pokeball in a Power plant and it exploding in your face! Inconsiderate!

Somehow I never thought about mimcs having guts in them, though it makes perfect sense. That'd be a great message box. "You got Mimic's Guts! Somehow this is armor!" And man those things are usually a lot tougher than the enemies in the are. I remember Tales of Symphonia and Rogue Galaxy had some pretty tough mimcs.

Anyway, SD3 sounds pretty freak'n cool, and I too like the branching paths, or at least some method of controlling character progression. I only recently played Secret of Mana on the Virtual Console with Alexx and our friend Simon. A lot of fun, and of course having three people controlling the characters makes it easier to get through. Also, having Simon as a walking encyclopedia also didn't hurt us. A lot of fun, so it is too bad that they didn't bother to bring over the next game.
Epic , brah!

Been playing some Rogue Galaxy recently and those mimics are reeeeeal annoying. They seem to get tougher with every dungeon you visit, and there's no real way to defeat them beyond "shoot with long range attacks until they die."

*Foaming at the mouth* GRRAAAHH WHY DIDN'T THAT GAME COME OOOVVEEEERRR!!!

*ahem* Anyway, I played SD3 on emulator. I never beat it, because at the time the translation wasn't complete and...well, I downloaded a TON of games back then, and I switched between them with my video game ADD. Regardless of never having beat it: I LOVED IT. I mean it seriously improved on everything - EVERYTHING. The graphics, the fighting, the story, and of course the overall additions when compared to the last one (which I already loved). I didn't get far enough for the character class thing, so it's amazing they added so much even beyond the already unique ability to choose your three characters AND get a different start based on who was out front. They had just put so much work into that game...I am consistently amazed that it never came over here. In any capacity. I mean like, what about now? Why is no one doing anything with this? People need to play this! AHHHHH!!

*wipes away foam* So yeah, even though I haven't even played this game all the way through, you can see how strongly I feel. Only a little bit of play will show just about anyone how uniquely awesome it was. Boggles the mind how that one slipped through the cracks. The SNES was already full of so much awesome that I think it could have handled SD3 (and Terranigma, while we're on the subject).

Oh...and yeah, it always confused me that Mimics were just supposed to turn into regular chests afterward! When I first ran into them I'd try to hit 'em again to make sure, but it would just open. Yay, guts! I mean, if you're starving out in the wilderness I suppose you've got some good meat there. I wonder how you clean and gut a Mimic? And HEY....is that where treasure chests COME from? Maybe they're all just Mimic skeletons...

I haven't played much of the Secret of Mana games, but I have played a bunch of Sword of Mana on the GBA and I really, really hate those stupid mimics. You'd get to an area and see a chest, you might think "All right! A chest just for me!" But no! Little did you know, that chest wants to devour your very being.

Loved the comic by the way.

@Tonymay- Thank you for your compliments on the backgrounds. =) I am pleased with the color balance on this one. There is actually no area in the game that is similar color-wise to this comic. The backgrounds I drew are loosely based on the area I think is known as "The Golden Road." The in-game's area's trees and bushes are green; we really wanted to show a lot more color variety by making them orange-ish red since most of our comics' plants are green (aside from this comic already sporting a lot of greens naturally because of the characters). We also seriously wanted to make up for the lack of color in the previous comic. '_' The setting in the first scene is not in-game either. There are actually very very few chests in the world in Seiken Densetsu 3 (probably less than a hand full) and none of them are mimics. I think you'll only encounter mimics (or "Ogre Boxes," which I think they're called in-game) if you happen to land on the roulette spot if you trigger a trap upon opening a chest.

I'm happy that you guys all like the comic! =D I was actually a bit worried that it might not be clear that the organs the three pull out of the chest are the Mimic's, not just organs that happen to be in the box. I was also worried that the mimic's insides might not look like organs either. @_@ I was a bit unsure how to draw the Mimic's internal anatomy. o_<

For those who want to play the game in English and 3 player, you can get it ! =D (The game is disappointingly naturally 2 player, but there's a patch on this site that let's you play 3 player. =D) Go check it out!

Off-topic of comic: @Tony May-San In Tales of Symphonia, you'd get an All-Divide for killing one (not sure if they did it for all tales games), and Terraria Mimics dropped a decent item

On-topic: THE MIMICS, OH GOD THE HORROR!!!! GET THE HOURGLA... *whisper in ear* Wait... wrong game? oh... Mimics are still evil, and dropping mimic organs would be useful if there was alchemy or just selling them
