Music

So I got to thinking, what are some other shiny things to talk about? Sequins are rather shiny, as are ruby slippers, but neither make for great conversation.

So, instead, let's talk about music!

What are you favorite genres? Artists? Albums? Songs? Tell me every excruciating detail.

I listen to a pretty wide variety of genres, actually. A lot of indie rock is involved, some that for lack of a better word I will just call "alternative", but I also like to listen to some good electronica (ie. trance, house, dubstep (not post-dubstep/brostep, that stuff is awful. I'm looking at you, Skrillex!), some classic rock, and as a Horn player I also love to listen to classical music. In fact, I really wish that I could play the piano xDI've tried in the past, but I wasn't very good... :P

My favorite bands/artists include:
-Modest Mouse (Indie rock. Pre-2004 is their better stuff, though they're still phenomonal recently. I also love Isaac Brocks other awesome band Ugly Casanova. Very much a similar sound, as he heads up both.)
-CAKE (Indie rock? I think? It's hard to categorize. They have a rather unique sound, and everything they put out is pure gold.)
-Moby (Soul? Electronica? Umm... He spans quite a variety of genres, though I prefer more of his soul-influenced works, like "Flower" or "Honey". Though he has some pretty great ambient techno songs such as "Alone" or "God Moving Over the Face of the Waters."
-Ratatat (Ok, now I really don't know how to describe these guys. Just listen to a couple of their songs, I suggest "Loud Pipes," "Shiller," and "Drugs." These will give a nice feel of how a lot of their songs are. Just, sooo cooooool :D)
-Sigur Ros (Just the most emotional music I've ever heard. This is an Icelandic band that sings in a gibberish language they call Hopelandic, and they make beautiful, beautiful music.)

Ummm... I don't want this post to go on to long, so I'll leave it at that!

What kinds of music are you guys into?

Well I'm into metal, just plain old metal or thrash metal, not the screemo people usually associate with metal.
My favourite bands are Metallica and Iron Maiden.
I probably got into the genre when I was little and hearing my older brother listen to Metallica.

And that's it.

I do the impossible, like skiing through a revolving door.

I can tolerate some metal, but not so much. I do like some metal-type stuff, though, like Epica, Apocalyptica, and the like. They've got some great stuff, very... Well, epic sounding music. Hmm, if you want to count A7X, they've got some great songs too :D

My friend is into a lot of metal, I think Five Fingered Death Punch a lot at the moment, so it grows on me a little xD

I listen to songs from the 70's, 80's, orchestral music, and techno. Not really dubstep much, mostly regular techno.

My favorite bands and artists include (in no particular order, and probably forgot some):

Earth, Wind, and Fire
Toto
Daft Punk
ABBA
Styx
Walter Murphy

Short list, but I listen to a wide variety of artists. I can't remember the ones I listen to the most really. But yeah. I listen to no hard dubstep, and absolutely no rock.

Hard dubstep? No such thing! Dubstep is a nice relaxed and chill kind of music. It's the post-dubstep that's killing us all!

Gotta love Daft Punk, really the pinnacle of house music. Did you know that they used to be guitarists for a punk-rock band, and some critic described them as just being "daft punk," so when they went on to doing their own thing they used it.

Apparently there's a similar story of how Led Zeppelin got their name. Some guy heard their music and said that it would fail as a lead zeppelin would (or something along those lines), so they rolled with it. It was originally "Lead" Zeppelin, but they had to change it because people were pronouncing it lead (rhyming with read. Wait, no... Creed. There we go.) I like Led Zeppelin, if you couldn't tell xD

Anyways, I love ABBA. My mom would always listen to them when I was a kid, so I grew to liking them. Strange how things happen like that!

You know that the Mythbusters made a lead zeppelin? It flew. :D

And I mean I hate the usual dubstep, I like the dubstep that is more on the line of being techno music in actuality. Much less bass, much less wub, more anything that resembles anything else. Like Mord Fustang I would suppose, his "dubstep" is more on the techno side.

Butbutbut... That's what I'm trying to say, that "dubstep" without the bass, less wub? Just noise that assaults your ears? The artists making it might want you to think that it's dubstep, but it's noooot xD

Go listen to some Bassnectar! (Monstercat Studios has some great dubstep artists with them, too. Ephixa is great, though he was originally a hardstyle artist so some of his songs are a little more high strung. But still deliciously bassy.... I'll call it hardstep? Dubstyle? :3 Anyways, I suggest you look up his Zeldastep songs. He remixed some Zelda songs and... It's just incredible. Here, I'll get some links (no pun intended):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU75uz0b8EU - Lost Woods remix

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp3UeCgu ... ure=relmfu - Song of Storms remix

He also did Dragon Roost and Gerudo Valley, but I don't think they were as good as the first two.)

Also, yes, I did see the Mythbusters' lead zeppelin. Pure win :D

Let us see. What kind of music do I listen to these days. Hmmm... Well, I suppose Heavy Metal is still something I enjoy (or at least things that people call Heavy Metal, anyway). And unless I'm in some sort of mood or want to not think for a while, Alt Rock is usually something I like to listen to on my iPhone or PSP (whichever has more batteries left). Any of the many genera of rock are usually enjoyable as well, but not all the time.
I'm also starting to like a little bit of Country again and find I can listen to some forms Techno and Rap when the time is right.

These days, my Music player almost always playing The Protomen, for some reason. Not really sure. I'll have to see what the planets' alignment is like.
I am not a reasonable man.

I tend not to be completely resricted to one genre of music. A lot of what I listen to is rock though.

Some of the artists I listen to the most are:

Florance and the Machine.
Tom Waits
Muse
Mumford and Son
Adele
Arcade Fire
Diablo swing Orchestra

David Gemmell

Bizarre Mexican Disco rock/pop. Song's about a hairless Mexican dog helping some guy out on secret missions and offering him chocolate. It's adorable.
